Environmental science is the scientific field that studies the interactions of the physical, chemical, and biological components of the environment and the relationships and effects of these components with the organisms in the environment. Environmental science can be divided into three main goals: understanding how nature works, understanding how we interact with the environment as humans, and how we influence the environment. The third goal of determining how humans affect the environment also includes finding ways to deal with these environmental impacts.
Environmental science is also known as an interdisciplinary field because it combines information and ideas from multiple disciplines. In the natural sciences, biology, chemistry and geology are all included in environmental science courses. Environmental science is so complex and extensive that it also includes the social and human sciences.
The social sciences that are included in environmental science include geography, economics, and political science. Philosophy and ethics are two areas of the humanities, and are also included in environmental science. By combining various aspects of the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, environmental science can cover more concepts and examine issues and topics from many different perspectives.
Environmental scientists may have different job responsibilities, but they conduct dye experiments in water to test how chemicals disperse during toxic spills and suggest ways to reduce damage. It is not uncommon to create maps or charts. They should explain the impact of air pollution over time, help other officials make more informed decisions about environmental laws, and assess the interaction between humans and wildlife, monitor the water quality of beaches.
The goal of an environmental scientist is to investigate, identify, prevent and resolve environmental problems, ensuring the safety of the Earth and all its living things.
WHY IS ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE CONSIDERED AN INTERDISCIPLINARY FIELD?
Environmental science combines different majors and you can work in a variety of related fields. You must master biology because biological science is an important part of environmental science. Surprisingly, you may also need to study economics and history. For example, in order to investigate environmental data it is useful to know the history of the site and restore the land and the watershed to something approaching the original undisturbed land. The summary and analysis of survey data also require knowledge of economics. This reflects the interdisciplinary nature of environmental science.
As a student in environmental science, you have many choices. You have the opportunity to study anatomy or microbiology. You have to study these subjects at the university because environmental science and biology are inextricably linked. You may need to dissect the animal or observe the microorganisms in the laboratory and summarize the structure of the organism and microorganisms. These related majors are important for further research in environmental science, so both students with environmental science master degree and students with environmental science doctor degree should have an understanding of these majors.
After analyzing environmental data, environmental science students must submit a cost-benefit analysis to the client. At this point, you must master the basics of economics, or you can't analyze the data scientifically. Geography is really useful because it teaches environmental science students how to read contour maps. Students can view the contour map and find out where the water naturally flows. This skill saves environmental science students a lot of time and gives them enough time to analyze the data.
Finally, Bacteriology produces mycology and also produces soil ecology, chemistry, organic chemistry, soil chemistry, water chemistry and experimental chemical analysis. The breadth of the environmental problems we face and the economic, scientific, social, and technical impediments to their solution underline how important it is that environmental scientists gain an appreciation for the processes and functioning of all environmental compartments and intentionally account for the long-term consequences and sustainability of the actions they propose. An environmental scientist should know concepts of population dynamics, economics, biology and microbiology, ecology, energy, chemistry, etc. to handle environmental issues appropriately. For this reason, environmental science is interdisciplinary.
