Lanzhou University

The school was founded in 1909. Its predecessor was the Gansu Law School, which was established during the New Deal in the late Qing Dynasty. It was the symbol of the beginning of higher education in Gansu Province and opened the precedent for higher education in Northwest China. In 1928, it was expanded to Lanzhou Zhongshan University. In 1945, it was named National Lanzhou University. After the founding of New China, Lanzhou University adhered to the party's educational policy, adhered to the correct direction of running a school, developed and expanded, and rapidly rose. In the adjustment of colleges and universities, it has been identified as one of the fourteen comprehensive universities of the country; under the guidance of the strategic goal of “developing the northwest” and “building a strategic rear”, it has become an important strategic position in the national higher education structure. A university shoulders the historical responsibility of cultivating high-level professionals and developing science, technology and culture for the country, especially the west. It has won more than 700 national, ministerial and provincial scientific and technological achievements awards, and edited and published more than 1,400 monographs, textbooks and translations. In 2016, the first unit published 1,547 SCI papers, ranking 39th in universities nationwide; in 2007-2016, 12,220 SCI papers were published, 155,512 times were cited, and the articles were cited 12.73 times, ranking 24th in the national universities. . In November 2017, the United States Thomson Reuters Group released the latest basic scientific indicator data ESI, Lanzhou University has 12 subjects into the top 1% of ESI global, namely, chemistry, physics, materials science, earth science, plant zoology, mathematics , engineering, biology and biochemistry, environment and ecology, clinical medicine, medicine and toxicology, and agricultural science. It has established exchanges and cooperation with 153 universities and research institutions in 35 countries and regions around the world, with partners in Asia, the United States, Europe, Africa and Oceania. In the past five years (2013-2017), 7,853 visits were received from foreign visitors and from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The faculty members went to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to participate in academic conferences, cooperative research and other activities, including 3,414 person-times, and sent nearly 4,135 people.
